How to write a descriptive essay?

A descriptive essay is a composition which is meant to describe certain object such as a person, place or some event.

The way you treat this assignment depends on the essence of task given to you by instructor. Describing people can be about describing their physical appearance, qualities, personality or biography. It can either combine all of the above, or choose one or several qualities to describe. Often writer is required to explain where his knowledge about subject of description comes from and personal attitude to this subject.

You should mention the qualities of an object which your audience is interested in. This is highly desirable to use appropriate language, various adjectives, colorful descriptions, comparisons, or even metaphors in a descriptive essay.

This is important to proof read your essay. Once the essay is finished, take several minutes or even hours to take your mind away from the topic of your writing. Afterwards, read though your descriptive essay and try to imagine everything that you’ve described there. Ask yourself whether this image is similar to the one you wanted to describe. What important features have you missed? Is there anything you can add to add vividness to your description? Is it possible to gather the whole image based on your essay? Revise you essay based on these findings.
