Evaluation essay

How to write an evaluation essay?

Almost any essay that you write during your studies requires expressing personal opinion about the topic of your writing. Evaluation essay is a type of composition which requires this personal opinion to be expressed more than in other types of essays. It requires analytical thinking and critical approach to the matter of discussion. You can either agree or disagree completely with opinions expressed in the object of your evaluation (it can be a book, an article, a movie, or character). You may also want to carefully analyze and partially agree with discussed material. In any case, for an evaluation essay this is necessary not only to provide your personal opinion, but also explain it to the reader.

This is possible for an evaluation essay to start with presenting different approaches to the matter of discussion. This will prepare background for judgment and make reader familiar with the subject. In the body of your composition you should analyze the topic. This is possible to focus only on thoughts that lead to conclusion you support, however, this is also possible to present other ideas. In this case you should always answer why you defend one or another position, even though thoughts about essay subject may seem to be contradictory.

Remember that your final judgment, which expresses your personal opinion, must flow logically from ideas written in your essay. If the matter of discussion is contradictory, you should provide in the essay enough evidence that facts supporting your opinion outweigh facts that are contradicting it. Do not forget to summarize your thoughts in a conclusion paragraph.
